The Hid’nFix invisible mounting system for wooden decking boards, 115mm (4½”) to 150mm (6″) wide, offers a very flexible and practical method for securely fastening boards to a variety of joist based platforms. The system provides for very strong, stable installations, with space between the joists and deck boards to allow proper ventilation thereby extending the life of the materials used.
The system is easy to fit and is suitable for both DIY and professional use. Hid’nFix is available in handy pre-packed kits with all the required components for around 4 sq. m (43 sq. ft.) of decking. The components are also available for order separately for larger projects and for professional users.
Hid’nFix is recommended for domestic / pedestrian use.
Supplied in a handy, reusable, Plastic Storage Box.
ADVANTAGES
Plan and build your deck support frame to suit the size and weight support requirements for your project. Decide in which direction your joists will run and from which end you will start installing the deck boards, taking into account that you will need clear access along the final edge to be able to secure the last plank to the joists.
Having a good solid base support framework is essential for creating a successful deck. The Hid’nFix invisible mounting system requires a minimum joist width of 40mm.
We recommend pre-drilling the boards for the screws used in the construction to minimise the chance of splitting or cracking the boards. This is essential with some hardwoods. As a general guide, for softwoods you might use a 3.5mm (9/64″) drill bit for the M6 screws used for the fixing bars and a 2.0mm (5/64″) drill bit for the smaller M4 screws that fit the fastening cleats. For hardwoods you might use 4.7mm (3/16″) and 2.7mm (7/64″) drill bits respectively.
As different woods have different characteristics we recommend conducting tests to check suitability before starting construction. Ideally use a depth restrictor to restrict the depth of drilling to 15mm (9/16″) in deck boards up to 25mm thick, and to 20mm (¾”) in deck boads more than 25mm (1″) thick. For hardwoods the depth of drilling can be increased slightly.
Place each decking board in position, upside down on the framework, and then draw lines across them marking the joist centres.
This will save time and make it easy to position the mounting bars and fastening clips accurately during installation.
Invisible Fixing System for Deck Boards from 19mm (0.75″) to 30mm (1.2″) thick.
For the hidden fixing of wooden decking boards, 115mm (4½”) to 150mm (6″) wide, so that no screws are visible in the top surface.
Recommended for domestic / pedestrian use.
The Fixing Cleat is designed for multi-function use in the installation of decking boards. The cleats are designed to interlock with one another to secure the deck boards into place. For installation of the first board, Fixing Cleas are placed centrally, 5mm from the starting edges of the joists, and are screwed down into position ready to interlock with the matching part on the underside of the leading edge of the first board.
The Fixing Cleats are also used on the last board of the installation to to fix down the final edge. The cleats are also required for board replacement or repair work should this ever be needed.
